two

Two years. Its strange to think it feels so long ago and feels like it was yesterday all at the same time. And I dont even really know what my feelings are about it this year. For once, I'm not quite sure what to write.

And the fact that Phil is in the hospital and having more surgeries on his knee instead of here with us makes my thoughts that much more foggy. An infection at the site of his ACL repair done 11 days ago caused us to run to the ER yesterday where we (well, he) stayed for 11 hours until they admitted him and found him a room. After a tap of his knee (read: big ass needle stuck in his knee - without lidocaine - and removal of a huge syringe of fluid) they were able to determine he in fact had an infection and would need 2 surgeries 48 hours apart to flush the knee from any infection. Minimum 5 day hospital stay. The chances of this happening are 0.8%. But the classic Boyer luck (or obvious lack there of) strikes again!

And of course it had to happen on the 26th. We couldn't make it to Henry's grave. I know it's ok and we will get there as a family the next possible chance we get. But I know it means a lot to Phil to be there on Henry's birthday. All I want is for him to start to feel better, start to heal and be able to move around on some kind of normal level. I'll fully admit, I partly want that for my sake, but I really want it so that  he can play with Sam like he used to again. If Sam were a few months old, he could still hold him, play with him, lay with him. But there is no stopping Sam most of the time. If you're playing with him, you are likely on your feet chasing him, following him around, running up and down the stairs, etc. I know Phil misses that right now more than I can fully understand.

We already miss him and it's going to be a long week without him here. But his buddies are going to do what they do. Sit and wait by the window, watching for Daddy to come home so they can greet him with jowls that curl at the corners into a smile and a wagging tail and an arm flailing yell of excitement.

We love you, Daddy.

And a few other things we have been up to this past week...

We play really well on our own, but we look to see if someone is near us every 25 seconds. . .

We carry around random things all day. This day in particular it was an old tissue pack found in an old diaper bag. . .

We walk around the house and talk as loud as possible and flail our arms around like it's super important.

We discovered we really like spaghetti. And Mommy discovered she really dislikes cleaning it up. But it was fun for all of us.

word of the day

 . . . Share.

Sam discovered some snacks in my diaper bag when I wasn't looking and of course his bff was right there to help get rid of the evidence. It takes him forever to pull out a snack from those containers, but when he did, he would first offer it to Daisy before quickly swiping his hand back and eating it himself. It was really funny to watch this go on for nearly 10 minutes.

Lions, Tigers, and . . . Sam??

Oh, my.
We have a growler. A LOUD growler. It's fantastic! As if I wasn't aging quickly enough, Sam insists on making me laugh all day and my wrinkles are gettin' deep, my friends. I'm going to need some night creme.

When Sam is happy he is growling. Smiling and growling. When he wants something and he needs you to know it, he growls at you with his eyebrows down. When he gets it, he keeps growling but with his eyebrows up. He growls at Daisy and she just looks at him with a blank "there he goes again" eye rolling face. I dont actually think dogs can roll their eyes, but I get her, and they are rolling.

He's an animal. We need to keep him in a cage. Oh wait, we kind of already do...hmm.

the animal will fight tooth and nail - well just tooth really - to get out of his cage...

with his giant paws he'll reach the top . . .

oh wait - he seems to be a friendly animal....

a VERY friendly animal...

He is a friendly animal indeed. And thankfully, so is Daisy. I think he might love Daisy more than he loves me. It's ok. She really is great. And as soon as she starts washing diapers she'll be almost as good a mom as me.

Sam's other latest trick is dancing. I am afraid for him. He just doesn't have it in his genes. I mean, have you SEEN Phil dance? Those of you who think Phil's a good dancer, you must be white. Because he definitely is not. And me, well, I'm sorry to say it's been tried and tried again but all the booze in the world can't make me a good dancer. Trust me. I put a lot of effort into testing that theory. It was called the "5 year college" plan.

The funniest thing he likes to dance to is the intro to weather tune that plays for maybe 1.5 seconds before the usually inappropriately dressed Sandra Shaw gives the morning forecast on WBAL. So now that I think about it, maybe he's dancing for her? Crap, we are going to have to have a talk.

His butt does keep some kind of rhythm though. Not usually the same rhythm that is playing in the background, but some kind of rhythm all right. I am thankful for Pandora's toddler station. I can play that on the ipad and he dances in his jumper while I shower. That station plays a lot of Disney movie music. It's funny that I still know all the words to Under the Sea and A Whole New World. Hakuna Matatta played the other day and that so far was his favorite Pandora song. In fact, the last 2 times he has been urrationally screaming for no apparent reason, I found myself chanting "hakuna matatta, hakuna matatta" softly and he calmed right down. Those Disney peeps, they're a wacky bunch with a long history of teaching our young girls they need a prince charming to save them from every life situation, but they got it right with the Lion King. In my book anyway.

I have been beyond busy in such a fabulous way with the photography business I really miss my poor neglected blog. We haven't done too many exciting things recently. We are just playing a lot, learning new things each day and eating a ton of good food. Sam's a carnivore for sure. He had some beef stew I made for dinner the other night and he has never growled so much over any food before. It was as if he was growling "MMMMMMMEEEEEEAAT". Thats what I heard anyway. Like I said before. Animal. After all that meat eating, the bath was much needed.

And now I'm off for some sleep. I don't get enough sleep and it's my own darn fault. Oh well - or should I say "Hakuna Matatta"? :)

He's practicing for blocking the paparazzi when he's famous and so rich he's supporting his parents :)

Bam Bam

I think I might have literally fell off the face of the earth. Sorry bout that. I don't recommend it really. The fall is quite tough, but once you actually get off the face of the earth, it's quiet and lovely.

Well, come to think of it, it's not that quiet in the Boyer household. Sam found his voice. He's going to be the next American Idol, but he's still a bit pitchy. Screeching is his thing. He's darn good, and he's got stamina like Mariah Carey (me neighbor is a fan of that). All day he's screeching. Bloody freaking murder screeching. I'm going to buy some ear plugs. My sanity is diminished and nerves shot. I've recently decided coffee isn't cutting it and am on straight Red Bull again like college. Rut Roh.

Remember this guy? Well just color his hair red and you can call him Sam. BAM - smacked in the nose. BAM - punched in the ear. BAM - Daisy takes one on the chin. BAM - the remote that was way out of his reach is suddenly chucked across the living room. BAM - his feet stomp on the floor in a migraine inducing tantrum. BAM - the attachment to the exercaucer that was secured tightly is ripped out from it's place and chucked on the floor. BAM - the whale bath tub is banging against the side of the big tub with innocent little fingers manipulating it with a kung-fu grip. BAM - a small but powerful fist is banging on the side of the crib when someone doesn't want to nap.

I think you get my drift.

Our sleeping issues are getting resolved though. The crying it out is working - at least for night time. Naps are a different story but we are getting there. Every day is different and thats the problem. He is close to sitting up and has started to scoot, although slowly and mostly backwards or to the side. And these dang teeth are giving him hell trying to come through. Thanks to some FANTASTIC FB friends we are working on some solutions (teething tabs really are great!)

It's a good thing Sam is damn cute! He still giggles when I say "Whoa" like Joey from Blossom. (I'm not sure where that started but I think it was in the early days where I was sleep deprived and clinically insane). And he still laughs when he sees Daisy, or when I tickle his sides or bite his chunk-master-flex thighs. And sometimes I can actually hear him smiling when he just drifts off to sleep on my chest. And he sleeps on his tummy with his legs tucked under and butt straight up in the air. I could watch him all night.

He doesn't look loud or destructive does he? (kinda like how Eddie Harkins doesn't look ornery?)

One day Daisy will appreciate the giggles she can get out of him without even trying (and I'm sure the big patches of missing hair will grow back).

Ugh, but his eyes just kill me. BamBam or not, I love him more than anything in the world.

Latest Belly. . . etc ,

So here he is at 31 weeks:

And at 32 weeks (the latest):

This one was this afternoon and it feels bigger than it looks! I feel pretty good, except for the excruciating heartburn 24 hours a day! But since I overall have had it so easy it's probably not fair to complain!
On the home front - The bathroom is done! WOO HOOOO! We are going to take a look at it tomorrow morning with the contractor and he'll do the finishing touches then we can move back in tomorrow night! I'm excited to get Daisy back to a normal routine, although it's been fun living with Ryan and Larisa. I've even come to like Diesel - the puppy with missing brain cells:).

And since the doggies have been my baby the last week and a half, I thought I would give them some face time:
